Rest in Peace, Ivan Wolkind

Sergeant Adam Elbaz wrote the following:

“One of our level III armed reserve officers passed away suddenly, leaving three children and a wife behind. Officer Ivan Wolkind joined the Department about 10 years ago. He was last assigned to the Wilshire Division, where he worked at the community relations office. Ivan truly encompassed our core value of service to the community in every aspect of his life. Ivan was a dedicated reserve and advocate for the Jewish community both here in Los Angeles as well as throughout the world. He spent years working at the Jewish Federation, where he created a strong bond between the LAPD and the Jewish community.”

Sergeant Johnny Johnson quickly organized a cadre of reserve officers and an honor guard within 24 hours to be there for the service.

Officer Ivan Wolkind smiles as his daughter, Nettie, affixes his badge at his LAPD swearing-in ceremony on July 2, 2014, as then-Chief Charlie Beck looks on. Wolkind was known in the Jewish community and beyond for being a champion of safety and for his love of family.
